Maine Brewers’ Guild to Host “Craft Beer Comes to Boothbay” Event Featuring Special Guest Sam Calagione
Boothbay, ME – June 23, 2011 – The Maine Brewers’ Guild will host a “Craft Beer Comes to Boothbay” beer tasting event in Boothbay, Maine on Saturday, July 30 from 1:00pm – 4:00pm. In addition to award-winning beer from twenty Maine breweries, this event will feature a special guest who has early brewing roots in Maine: Sam Calagione, founder of one of the country’s leading craft breweries, Dogfish Head Brewing Company.
“Craft Beer Comes to Boothbay” attendees will experience Maine’s craft beers at an intimate, outdoor tasting event showcasing some of the best award-winning brews Maine has to offer. Founders, owners, and brew masters from Maine breweries will be in attendance, creating a more unique experience than a traditional beer festival.
Rare, special and single batch beers will be featured among the brews being poured at the event, including a collaborative beer being produced specifically for the festival by Maine Beer Company, Rising Tide, and Allagash Brewing. Special beers will be available from many of the brewers including Sebago Brewing Company’s 2011 Grand Crue.
This event will feature traditional southern BBQ and be held outdoors at the Boothbay Resort in scenic coastal Boothbay.
“Summer is the time when the world comes to Maine,” noted Maine Brewers’ Guild president Fred Forsley. “This event gives Maine brewers the chance to showcase our beer to visitors who wouldn’t otherwise have the opportunity to experience the diversity and quality of all our state’s award-winning beer.”
Special guest Sam Calagione is the founder of Dogfish Head Brewing Company in Delaware and, as host of the Discovery Channel’s recent TV series, “Brew Masters,” one of craft beer’s most recognizable names.
“Sam is on the board of the national Brewers Association with Rob Tod, owner of Allagash Brewing, and is a frequent visitor to Maine with long-standing ties to the Boothbay area,” continued Forsley. “When the Brewers Association stepped up its efforts to support state brewers’ guilds, having Sam on board to help raise funds for the Maine Brewer’s Guild seemed like a natural fit.”
One hundred percent of the proceeds from this event support the Maine Brewers’ Guild and its continuing mission to promote the craft brewed industry in Maine. The Spruce Point Inn is donating its catering services.
